Next month I’ll be chairing a music-related panel at a great event for YA books in West London called YA Shot. If you want to come and see lots of authors for teens talking about their books, make sure you get a ticket.
As part of the blog tour for the event, I was asked to do a post for the lovely Kaavya, whom I met in Topshop for a little interview. (Was that fun? Why yes, it was.) Kaavya had this brilliant idea of asking the boys in The Point – my band in Love Song – some interview questions and getting them to answer in their own words. So they did. What I’ve learned from this is that I would really, really like to be a boy in a boyband, hanging out with my mates, making music and being occasionally ridiculous, just for a while.
Kaavya colour-coded the boys’ replies. She is that dedicated. Thank you, Kaavya! Here’s what Jamie, Angus, Connor, George and Declan have to say …
Oh, and if you’re reading this in time, there’s a giveaway associated with the post, so check it out for a free copy of Love Song itself.
Hello Sophia,
Ok.Wow! If you are really reading this *fangirl moment* i just want to tell you, that you are epic. Amazing. Awesome. Your writing is a piece of art. As a bookaholic I have to admit that when I first saw your book I thought it was a typical cliched read. But when I read it I was hooked. No force of nature (except probably Pammy) would stop me from reading it. I was mindblown. I am writng to tell you that ‘Love Song’ is different. Good different. I have to admit that I’m a sucker for romace, and all things Disney and happy endings. So for people like me you book is in the MUST READ LIKE RIGHT NOW category. As soon as I finshed, literally as soon- it’s 3 am when I’m writing this, I was reading up till 2:30am at night I was so engrossed and it took me half an hour recovery time. You inspire me. I want to be a writer myself but I don’t think I’ll ever get there. You have a gift of expressing unsaid things in words. It’s a simple story but it portrays real emotions. You totally inderstand teens with all their crazy impulses and moods and self-doubting issues. There is a quote by Mark Twain “Happiness and sanity are an impossible combination” and I agree but more along the lines of “Love and sanity are an impossible combination”. Love makes us crazy. We can’t think with a straight mind when it comes our loved ones. You expressed that just right. Of course along with a touch of the ‘real world’ where a
normal, simple girl, the eldest in a family of four doesn’t really get to live the dream life. I really like Nina. She’s sensible but she has her weaknesses and isn’t an all perfect girl. But she’s a great person. Genuine. Kind. Selfless. Pammy is really the best friend, she reminds me of my best friend. A force of nature. Ariel is just adorable. And ‘The Point’. *no words* They are imaginary But I would love love love to hang out with them. Jamie is wow. Hot. The perfect counterbalance to Nina. I love his ‘poetic soul’. His smile and romantic gestures don’t give others a chance. Chivalry is not dead. Next, ANGUS! I am in love with him. He’s my favorite. I love his sarcastic nature. He is a deep personality and has many layers. The Bad boy. The devil. But’s such an innocent, broken child on the inside. Not many see the real him.
Forgive me, this is like unacceptably huge for a reiew but I don’t know. It’s the first time I’m writing one. But I’d had so much to say and I had to get it out. And I don’t think I have properly. I can’t write. But you can. So please write more. Never stop. You have magic. You can express what you want to say in words. Many like me find that hard. So don’t be Sigrid. Please write a book about Angus. I can’t stop thinking about him. I’m sure many people would love to read it. You can make it a sequel to “Love Song” and call it some thing like “Love Song:Rewinded” or “Love Song: A New Beat”. Ok so I know the names suck. Anyway, pretty please please please write a book on Angus. I hope to meet you someday but I know that’ll never happen. Just like you touched my heart with “Love Song” I hope to do so as well. And I definately wouldn’t mind a movie.
Love You
Apoorva.
Thank you so much, Apoorva! I absolutely write for those moments when someone can’t put the book down at 3 in the morning, so your review was perfect. I’d love to have written a book about Angus too. It was next on my list, but sadly my publisher wasn’t so sure. However, I agree that he would make a great subject for a sequel. And I’d love a movie too, of course. 😉 Sophia x
Sophia..are planning any movie based on love song?if u aren’t plz make…I am in love with this novel…whenever I am free I read this book again and again….can tell me what happen between nina and Jamie afterward I mean do they get married? What about Nina’s art career?and what happens between Angus and Issy?plz answer me if u have imagined anything
.
Hi Jiny. I would love a movie to be based on Love Song! However, no movie company has signed me up yet. I’m so glad you love Nina’s story – it’s very special when a book gets read over and over.
As for Nina and Jamie … when I was writing the book I thought they probably wouldn’t stay together because relationships with famous rock stars when they’re young rarely last. However, as I reached the end I thought that Nina was so sensible and kind, and so focused on her own life and career as much as Jamie’s, that she would always be interesting to him, the way he is to her. They have Heatherwick Hall in common and I can see her dashing back from art college to host amazing parties there with Jamie, and all their friends coming along. Then animals, then children … I hope they’re happy together for decades to come.
As for Angus and Issy, that’s a more complicated story. That’s the one I’d have told in book 2, if there had been a sequel. They’re both fiery, damaged characters and I think things would be harder for them – though their passion is undeniable.
Book 3 would be Declan’s, when he discovers who he really is and who he loves. This one would be quite a surprise!
And book 4 is Connor’s. He has a lot of self-discovery to do to, and quite a bit of growing up.
No plans to write these at the moment because I’m working on a new series for a different publisher, but maybe one day …
