Love Song’s original title was This Is Not a Love Song (one of my favourite post-punk anthems from Public Image Ltd) because it’s about a girl who doesn’t want her life complicated by messy feelings for a boy.

Nina is sensible, level-headed and calm. But that’s why more than one boy – famous boys, in fact – falls for her. And things get messy anyway. So yeah, there is a little bit of love, and a lot of songs.

And I’m thrilled that Nina’s story has been shortlisted for the Romantic Novel of the Year award. It means I get to dress up in my sparkly trousers and go out on a night on the town in March. It means I get to share a glass of prosecco (I hope) with friends like Natasha Farrant and Tamsyn Murray, who are shortlisted too. Squad goals. But most of all, it means Love Song is loved, and I’m so happy about that . Thank you, Romantic Novelist’s Association. Now, where did I put my sparkly trousers?
