Paint a portrait … in words or pictures
To celebrate the launch of Following Ophelia, we are giving away 5 signed copies of the book, and the chance to have your work published on my website.
To enter, paint or sketch a portrait of yourself or someone else, or take a photograph and give it an artistic twist. Also, you can write your portrait: short stories or descriptions up to 500 words are included. The overall winner will receive a notebook and some drawing goodies too.
Following Ophelia is about a 16 year old girl with bright red hair and green eyes, who comes to London in Victorian times and is discovered by a talented young painter. It’s set in the world of the Pre-Raphaelites, who included Dante Gabriel Rossetti and John Everett Millais. If you want some inspiration, have a look at their pictures … or find your favourite artist in a gallery or online.
Your work must be your own. If you are under 13, make sure you have a parent or carer’s permission to enter.
1. Give it a title and send it to me at sophiaben at me dot com. (If it’s a story, attach it in a Word or PDF file; if it’s a picture, send it as a jpeg.)
2. Mark the subject ‘Competition‘.
3. You must also answer this question: WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE YOUNG ARTIST WHO PAINTS MARY ADAMS IN FOLLOWING OPHELIA? (Clue: the answer is on this website.)
4. Give your age, name, and tell me a little bit about why you like art.
Deadline for entries is 1 July.
GOOD LUCK!
