Hi Bea. My next book will be called The Castle and it’s coming out next summer. I think I’ve finished it, but we’ll have to see if my editor agrees! However, it’s got a great cover and I can’t wait to show people. I’m glad you loved the last two. There’s also the Threads series, if you want to read other books of mine in the meantime. xxx

    Dear Mrs. Bennett,
I somehow accidentially stumbled across your books in a german library because I had nothing else to read. I’m usually not this interested in fashion, but i absolutely loved your books!!! I think I’m more the Edie kind of person πŸ˜‰ and they inspired me to take action against inequity on this world. I haven’t decided what to do yet but thanks for your tips on how to get involved in the german version of the third book. I really think you have a great way of matching (not sure if this is the right word) the dream world with reality.
    Love from Germany

Hi Annika. Thank you! I think I’m an Edie kind of person too. I love using the Threads books as a way of telling people how they can get involved. It can be so hard to learn about the terrible things that happen in the world, and the way I deal with it is to know that I can make a difference, however small, and to do it where I can. Also, I love writing about the good things, too. Hearing from readers like you is what makes it all worthwhile. sophia x

    Hi
A couple of weeks ago you came to my school (JAGS) to talk about writing and sighn books,
I bought you don’t know me and I just wanted to say it is AMAZING I love it !
Also your books have inspired me to try writing a new story of my own, do you think it’s better to plan or just start straight away ?
    Thank you

Hi Imi. That was a great day! I really enjoyed it too. I’m so glad you’re inspired to write. Personally I like to plan, so I know the story will always be interesting. I don’t always stick to the plan, though. You can be planning away, but also experimenting with writing in your character’s voice. How would she describe a scene? What makes her point of view interesting? Then put the plan and the voice together and voila- story. That makes it sound easy and it isn’t of course. But it’s still fun. Good luck! S xx

It will be called The Castle, probably, and I’m expecting to see the draft version of the cover soon, which is exciting. Hi Leilani. That’s an interesting question. I think it depends on your reading age. It’s generally recommended for age 12 and upwards. I tend to write for the younger end of the YA market, although many people at the older end seem to enjoy the books too. sophia xxx

    Hello Sophia,
On your UK tour, you said that you did not get much say in the choice of your book covers. Was that true with ‘The Look’ as well? Because I love the cover and suspect there are hints of your personality in it, too.
Also, is it just me that imagines the girl on the cover to be Ted doing her ‘warrior stare’ for the cameras?

      Hi Zahra
Interesting question! I was actually quite involved with the cover of The Look and I really like it. The only thing is that the model looks much older than just-sixteen year-old Ted. But yes, I do think of that as Ted’s ‘warrior stare’.

Hi Emily. I have many, many favourite books. One of them is Murder Must Advertise, by Dorothy L Sayers. Lord Peter Wimsey takes a job in an advertising agency in London to try and discover who killed one of the copywriters there. In the process, he creates a very successful advertising campaign and plays a brilliant game of cricket. Because that’s the type of detective he is. It’s a brilliant plot and I love detective stories. xxx

the title of the book that I read is “threads” and not “a tailor-made dream”. I was wrong because in Italy its title is “un sogno su misura” and “a tailor-made dream” is the literary translation…

Hi Hanne. I’m so glad you love the Threads series! I didn’t mind changing the beginning of the third book, because John Galliano’s behaviour in Paris was so bad that I felt I could no longer hold him up as a role model for kids who wanted to be designers. The high pressure of his job at Dior became too much for him. Writing about Sarah Burton instead was great because not only is she very talented too, and producing amazing collection after amazing collection for McQueen (without getting drunk and shouting obnoxious remarks at strangers), but she’s associated with wedding dresses (Kate Middleton’s!), so it was very appropriate for the story. I would be happy for the English edition to use this new version of the opening chapters too. sophia xxx
