This year, I’m proud to take over from Abi Elphinstone as patron of the TS Foundation Readers Cup, which organises a thrilling quiz for primary school children in London – putting books into the hands of students who otherwise might not get the chance to read them.

Kids from around London come in teams of nine to compete for a silver cup. Their knowledge of the books is quite amazing. I’m sure the authors wouldn’t do so well. I get to present the winners’ cup (my favourite bit – apart from getting the occasional question right myself). The excitement in the room every time is spine-tingling. Fingers on buzzers …
