Well, as I write (in September 2011), the answer is … probably.

Which is amazing!

A fabulous TV production company called Lime Pictures, who make The House of Anubis, have bought the rights to Threads, and are hoping to shoot the first series in 2012. Do not write to me about casting! I have no idea who will be in it, and no say. I just help with the writing – which is absolutely thrilling for someone who thinks that some of the best writing IN THE WORLD right now is for TV. Think Dr Who, The West Wing, The Simpsons, The Wire, 30 Rock, Phineas and Ferb … The chance to do what those people do fills me with … oh yes, Glee.

All I know is that they’re hoping to film in London, and that they really understand my characters, and all their hopes and troubles and aspirations, and I can’t wait to work with them.

This is the glass of champagne my fabulous publisher Barry gave me to celebrate the deal. Thanks Barry! (The tea was nice too.)

And here’s me signing the contract (or rather, pretending to for the photo. I’d actually signed it by then. In six places. TV contracts are really LONG.)

So, hopefully Nonie, Edie Jenny and Crow will come to life next year, and will have a whole new set of adventures, as well as some familiar ones. I have a very good imagination. I make my living by it. But I really can’t imagine it at the moment. It’s just too fantastic.

So for now, all I can say is … yay!

Hi Sophia! I am a huge fan of threads! Like Nonie and Crow, I absolutely adore fashion. Reading these books gives me hope for my dream job, a fashion designer.
I was wondering how you know so much about fashion. I was also wandering how you thought of all the collections.

Hi Jasmine. I’m sorry I’ve only just got to your comment. Good luck with your fashion job! I learned so much about fashion by following it in magazines and reading about it. I didn’t go to fashion school (although that would have been great!) but I’ve always been fascinated by fashion and costume. Nonie’s fashion library is largely based on mine. The collections took every last drop of my imagination! But they were great fun to design in my head. I’d love to see a real fashion designer draw illustrations of what they could be like one day. sophia xxx

Hi Jasmine. I love your Twitter name! I’ll look out for you there. Mine is @sophiabennett (not surprisingly). I’m so glad you love Threads – and if there are any developments with the TV planning, I’ll definitely announce them here and on my blog. As for writing tips, check out the section on this website. There are lots of useful ones there. Getting books published is very tough, and requires huge diligence and persistence – getting your story in the best possible, possible shape before you send it off, and being ready for rejection if it happens. You’ll need to look at The Writers and Artists Yearbook. See if they’ve got it in your library. It tells you everything you need to know. xxx

Oh that’s supper awesome. I JUST NOW finished the first book, and so I thought I’d check out the website! It’s pretty cool about you getting a TV show, can’t wait! I’m also gonna try and help the Invisible Children. I find that very saddening πŸ™ that would be cool if they talked about them or something on your TV show πŸ™‚ I hope it all goes well. πŸ˜€

I’m sorry it took me a while to reply to your message. It’s fantastic to know that you’re going to try and help the Invisible Children. Child war victims need all the help they can get, and new children are being affected all the time. Yes, I hope we can talk about their plight on the TV series too. Thanks for your good wishes. sophia xxx

Ah! The TV series might make it to the US FIRST! And you can always get hold of the second book via The Book Depository if you can’t wait for it to be published in the US, by the way. Not sure when it’s due out. xxx

Will do if and when we get that far. And if and when they tell me anything. But as I’ve said, I have no control over that process at all. All I can do is cross my fingers, hope they go ahead, and hope they pick fabulously wonderful people to be my girls. No pressure … πŸ™‚

I absolutely loved it when you came to Driffield School in the middle of nowhere and signed all my books and posters! It was so cool to see one of my favorite authors in the flesh!

We have to go through lots of hoops first – get the go-ahead to make the series, write a great script, find the cast, make something that the audience likes … but ideally it would end up being shown in the UK one day. We’ll just have to hope. It’s a long way away … (And yes, Glee is one of my favourite TV series, or at least, the first series is, anyway. I’d love to make something that good.) xxx
